Article About Grey Rock Race

From Eric:

Grey Rock 50K, 25K & 12K Trail Runs – July 12, 2014

It was a hot day in the mountains for trail runners participating in the 10th annual Grey Rock Trail Runs. Despite the warm conditions there were some fast times! Jeff Hashimoto from Ellensburg finished first in the 50K with a time of 4:52:50 and Shamai Larsen from Seattle finished first for the ladies with a time of 6:57:09. In the 25K, Ian Engerbretson from Moscow, Idaho scorched the course in record time with a time of 2:23:47, while Kirsten Clarke-Hollingbery from Tieton set a new women’s course record with a time of 2:40:49. In the 12K Keith Beaman from Yakima finished first in 1:24:12 and the first lady finisher was Kasey Clifford from Yakima with a time of 1:27:43. Our youngest ever finisher at eight years old was Jonathan Wright from Yakima who finished the 12K in 1:37:37 (wow)! Congratulations to all our finishers, you all made it a great day!
[Note: Finish times were previously posted day after the event on the Ultra Signup website and on the HCR website].
[A little known fact from the archives: In 2009 Mark Currell from Selah, WA set the course record for the 25K with an amazing finish time of 2:03:29. However, the course was short that year due to some logging on Whites Ridge. Also, for a good many years, since 2007, Karin Kupp of Yakima held the women’s 25K course record with a time of 2:41:49.
Prior to 2010 known of the 25K & 12K finish times were posted on the Ultra Signup Grey Rock link (paper registration, etc., back then). I will try to get those earlier years posted
in my spare time…..(right)!

I would like to express a huge thanks to all of the volunteers at the Grey Rock Trail Runs! Especially to the Yakima Amateur Radio Operators and County Search and Rescue volunteers for tracking the runners and keeping us safe...Jo Whitney...you guys rock! There were 17 volunteers from Search & Rescue this year (awesome)! Thanks to a fantastic aid station staff; Carol Stuhley, Rosanne Bacon, WD Frank, Jack Riggins, Janice Northrup, Curtis Upton & Sheri Boyd! Thanks to our start--finish line volunteers for registration and set up & keeping things flowing smoothly with run timing, award recognition -- Frank Purdy, Jack Carlton, Mike Schmitt; food -- Lori Anderson & Janis Carlton; and our awesome tag team trail sweeps Tanya Hoff & Carol Stuhley. Thanks to photographers Heidi Anderson and Rosanne Bacon for capturing some of the essence of what these trail running ventures are all about.....pictures were previously posted on the HCR Face Book page and some on the HCR website (Grey Rock link)! Thanks to Jeff Hagen for marking the trail on Foundation Ridge! Thanks to WA Dept. Natural Resources for providing a permit for our trail venture! A final special thanks to my wife Lori for helping me with all of this and for her continued support and for always being by my side!

See you next year!
Cheers.....Eric

Rock and Roll Grey Rock!? Not even close. Intimate, friendly, amazing volunteers a terrific way to spend a Saturday. Congrats to all who participated and thank you Eric Anderson for your commitment.
I want to share these Grey Rock Trail Run photos taken by my daughter in law Heidi Anderson. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! She did a super job!
I had so much fun taking pictures at the Grey Rock Trail Run. It was hike for me to get up the mountain. I'm very impressed with all those that ran past me! I tried to get pictures of the runners on their way up and down. But I'm still learning to use my camera and did this just for the fun of it. Enjoy!
Eric Anderson Super job on the photos Heidi ....& thanks for all your help around the camp the day before and day of race.
Well, I survived the Grey Rock 25k. It was my first trail run and I wasn't expecting it to be such a challenging and fun run. I got home, showered, donned some comfy flip flops, and immediately rolled my ankle on perfectly flat ground. Oye!
Thank you Eric Anderson and crew for your time organizing/volunteering another Grey Rock. A great little event in our backyard. Wearing my shirt and drinking my favorite from my mug as I post!
Eric Anderson, Frank C. Purdy great race today! Awesome way to spend a Saturday morning. Thank you for all your hard work
• Great fun! Thanks for another great race.

Great job and thanks to all of you! It was a very well run set of races.

Eric Anderson Thanks to all for your wonderful comments! Stay tuned .....will be getting results posted in next day or two. There was a brief blip in the sports section today on the top finishers....more to come I'm sure! Cheers...Eric

As I sit here and ponder my accomplishment yesterday of finishing the Grey Rock 25k and all my various hurting body parts this morning, I realize what a great experience it was because of all the super volunteers and a really great race director. It's been so great getting to know the running community. It's the people that made it a great experience! Thank you! Now, can someone brings a cup of coffee? I can't seem to get my legs to work.....

Heidi Anderson posted 177 photos of Grey Rock 2014 to our club's Facebook page.
