Yakima River Half & Marathon Committee announced of 1-1-2022:
We are
delighted and excited to announce that registration is open for the 20th Yakima
River Canyon Marathon and Half-Marathon on April 2. As many of you know, the
ongoing Covid-19 pandemic forced us to cancel the race in 2020 and 2021.
Those who
rolled over their entries from the previous two years will have those processed
during the first week of January. The entry fee is $80, increasing to $95 after
Feb. 28. Sign-up is online only, and there will be no day-of-race registration.
While much of
the race will look familiar, pandemic realities and restrictions will prompt
changes in related events, especially those taking place indoors.
A highlight of
the race since 2001 has been the Friday night pasta feed and the Saturday
evening potato feed and awards ceremony, both of which take place indoors at
the Selah Civic Center. Amid the ever-changing Covid situation, we remain
unsure as to whether we may conduct these events and assure the health and
safety of all participants. We will continue to assess the situation and will
announce a decision in the next few weeks.
Of
considerable interest is our tribute to the late Bob and Lenore Dolphin, the
longtime race directors. The tribute was planned to take place in conjunction
with the Friday night pasta feed. If we decide that we cannot hold an indoor
event, we will move ahead with a live-streamed tribute that the Dolphins’ many
friends may view online.
Likewise, if
we decide not to proceed with the Saturday potato feed, we will make other
arrangements for overall winners and age-group placers to pick up their awards.
As in past
years, entries will be capped at 200 in the half-marathon due to logistics
involving bus transportation. At this point, we have no limit on marathon
participants.
We appreciate
your loyalty and patience as we navigate our path through the pandemic. We look
forward to seeing you on April 2!

Some of you may be familiar with Noe Alvarez, a
Davis High School graduate and acclaimed author who wrote the book “Spirit
Run.”
His work is a totally different kind of running book, one that features many
insights about his Yakima upbringing and his unique running journey
Fans of Noe Alvarez soon will have a chance to enjoy his words as spoken, and
not just in print. He will be the keynote speaker for the Yakima Schools
Foundation Celebrate Our Youth event.
The virtual event will be April 28. The schools foundation says it includes
lunch from The Lab and a signed copy of “Spirit Run.”

We received this from Kirsten.
Check out the web site she has provided. Quite good information for all.
Hi Hard Core Runners Club,
I go to Davis High School. In my health class, we were asked to raise awareness of running safety in the area.
So what I’m doing is asking running websites to share safety tips.
It's awesome that you promote health and fitness in the community through running. I think runners (and even walkers) of all ages, standards and abilities could benefit greatly from the many running opportunities and events that you offer in your club.
As you no doubt value safety, it might be nice if you could post safety resources on your website.
A good one I found that I think could be helpful is https://www.dietspotlight.com/benefits-of-running/ - list of safety tips, running benefits, resources.

Wednesdays6pm for a 1-hour social run mixed with a little fartlek. Runners of all paces are welcome! Look for the HCR yellow. Check our Facebook Page for weekly details.
